There is probably no other man who has experienced as much in New Guinea as Dr.
Werner Weiglein. His expeditions led him to all parts of the country.

Papua/Indonesia
Highland of Papua

Baliem valley: first visit in 1979, about 200 visits up to the present day

Eastern highland up to Papua border (Yali, Ok, Mek and Kimial)

First cross-country expedition to Angguruk (Yali region) in 1984

About 30 expeditions in this region up to today (including pioneer tours,
especially from 1984 to 1990)

Western Highland of Papua
Expeditions from Highland to Lowland
- Expedition along Brazza, Kolff, Baliem, Siret and Digul rivers down to the coast
- Between 1984 and 1989, 18 tours from Korapun and Dakai/Brazza to Senggo
- Eastern and western side of Baliem river down to the coast
- From Langda to the Siret sources and to the region of the Korowai people
- All in all about 40 expeditions from the highland to the lowland up to the present day
Lowland expeditions
- Mountain-foot region/ Inner Asmat
- The region between Siret and Dairam Kabur river (amongst others the
region of the Korowai’s settlements) used to be and still remains the
focus of all expeditions. About 50 expeditions in the whole area
since 1985.
- Also first crossing afoot of the region from the Brazza to the Dairam Kabur
- Coast expeditions in the Asmat region and the Casuarine coast
- Mamberamo, extreme tour to the crocodile hunters in the northern
lowlands
- About 30 expeditions in the entire coastal area between Timika and the mouth
of Digul river up to the present day (including many pioneer expeditions
since 1989)
Papua Niugini and Solomon Islands
A: Highland of Papua Ni ugini
- Several cross-country expeditions in the region of the Min (between
Strickland and the border to Irian Jaya)
- Expedition across the Star Mountains
- Minimum 15 expeditions in the “ordinary” Highland of Papua Niugini
- Repeated tours to Mt. Wilhelm and climbing
- Customary participation in the Papua’s feasts
B: Sepik region
- Pioneer expedition from Green River to its mouth in 1988
- About 10 expeditions in the Sepik region and its hinterland up to
the present day
C: Southern Papua Lowland
- Expeditions on Fly and Strickland rivers
- Expedition on Kikori River
D: Solomon Islands
- Expeditions through the largest of the Solomon Islands with
island-crossings
